Which Tajikistan visa do I need?
Last updated: October 15, 2026
Use a Tajikistan tourist visa for sightseeing and family visits. Use a Tajikistan business visa for meetings and other short commercial travel. A Tajikistan transit stop needs no e-Visa when you stay in the international transit area. Tajikistan visa on arrival is collected at Dushanbe airport after advance approval. The GBAO permit is added when the route enters the Pamirs.

Tajikistan tourist visa
The Tajikistan tourist visa on this site is the tourism category of the e-Visa. It covers sightseeing, family visits, and other short leisure travel. You apply from outside Tajikistan and receive the approval by email.
- Stay: up to 60 days. Leave before the stay and the visa expire.
- Validity: 90 days. Enter on any date inside that window, on or after the date printed on the visa.
- Entry: single entry or multiple entry.
- Who applies: each traveler, including each child, on their own passport.
- Fee: Tajik missions publish USD 30 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry.
Eligibility depends on nationality. Some nationalities have extra requirements, which are shown after you choose your nationality and travel dates. The full tourist rules are on the tourist visa page.
Tajikistan business visa
The Tajikistan business visa on this site is the business category of the e-Visa. It covers meetings, conferences, negotiations, and other short commercial travel. The stay, the 90-day validity, and the published fees match the tourist e-Visa.
- Purpose: short business travel. The e-Visa does not authorize employment.
- Stay: up to 60 days.
- Documents: the same passport scan and portrait as a tourist file. A business visit may also need proof of the trip, such as an invitation, tickets, or accommodation.
- Work, study, residence: arrange those through a Tajik mission.
Read the business visa page before you upload documents.
Tajikistan single entry visa and multiple entry visa
Single entry and multiple entry are options on the tourist e-Visa and the business e-Visa. Choose the one that matches the trip before you pay. Approved dates and the entry type stay fixed.
- Tajikistan single entry visa — one entry during the 90-day validity. The published consular fee is USD 30. Leaving Tajikistan uses that entry. A later return needs a new application.
- Tajikistan multiple entry visa — more than one entry during the validity window. The published consular fee is USD 50. Each stay still cannot exceed 60 days, and you must leave before the visa expires.
The total on this site, including any assistance charge, is shown before you pay. Current amounts are on the fees page.
Tajikistan transit visa
A Tajikistan transit stop follows the airport area you use. This website does not sell a separate transit e-Visa.
- International transit area: no e-Visa is required if you stay airside and do not pass immigration.
- You pass immigration: that stop is an entry. Use a tourist e-Visa for sightseeing or a family visit, or a business e-Visa for a meeting.
- Overnight, a change of airport, or baggage collected after entry: apply for the matching e-Visa before you travel, about two weeks ahead, while you are still outside Tajikistan.
Airline rules can still require a visa for some nationalities even for a short airside wait. Confirm that with the airline. The transit page sets out both cases.
Tajikistan visa on arrival
Tajikistan visa on arrival is issued at the Consular Bureau of Dushanbe International Airport after the visa was approved before you travel. It is a different document from the e-Visa.
- The e-Visa is approved online and emailed. You carry it with the same passport.
- Visa on arrival is collected at Dushanbe airport against that advance approval.
- This page does not treat other airports as visa-on-arrival desks.
- A visa-exempt passport does not need visa on arrival when the stay is inside the exemption. A longer tourist or business stay, up to 60 days, uses an e-Visa.
Details are on the visa on arrival page. Check visa-exempt countries before you decide.
GBAO permit
The GBAO permit is not a separate Tajikistan visa type. It is a single-entry permit for the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, added to a tourist or business e-Visa when the route enters the Pamirs. Districts include Khorog, Darvoz, Vanj, Rushon, Ishkoshim, and Murghob.
- Request it with the e-Visa. Tajik missions publish the permit fee as USD 20.
- Enter that region on the date shown on the permit.
- A visa exemption or a visa on arrival still needs this permit for GBAO.
Coverage maps, e-Visa areas, and permit benefits are on the GBAO zone page. Permit notes are also on requirements.
Work, study, visa-exempt entry, and mission visas
Some trips sit outside the two e-Visa categories.
- Employment, study, or a stay longer than 60 days — apply at a Tajik embassy or consulate. The e-Visa cannot be extended on this website past 60 days.
- Visa-exempt entry — some passports may enter without a visa for a short stay. Confirm the exemption on the visa-exempt list before you travel.
- Your nationality — e-Visa eligibility depends on the passport. Check the country list. If the e-Visa is not available, use a Tajik mission.
Passport rules for an e-Visa: valid for at least six months after the visa you request, and for at least six months from the date you intend to enter, with at least two blank pages. The procedure is one form, then card payment, then the approval by email. Holders may enter through all border points, including Dushanbe International Airport and Khujand International Airport. The list is on border points.

Short answers for Tajikistan tourist visa, Tajikistan business visa, transit, visa on arrival, and the GBAO permit.
What are the Tajikistan visa types for a short visit?
The short-visit Tajikistan e-Visa is issued for tourism or business. Both allow a stay of up to 60 days and are valid for 90 days. You can request single entry or multiple entry. Apply only while you are outside Tajikistan.
What is the difference between a Tajikistan tourist visa and a business visa?
A Tajikistan tourist visa covers sightseeing, family visits, and other leisure travel. A Tajikistan business visa covers meetings, conferences, negotiations, and other short commercial travel. The stay, validity, and published consular fees are the same. The business e-Visa does not authorize employment.
Is there a Tajikistan transit visa?
This website does not offer a separate transit e-Visa. You do not need an e-Visa if you stay inside the international transit area. If you pass immigration, use a tourist e-Visa or a business e-Visa.
Can I get a Tajikistan visa on arrival?
A visa on arrival is collected at Dushanbe International Airport only after it was approved before you travel. It is a different route from the e-Visa, which is emailed before you fly. Arriving with no approval, when your passport needs a visa, can mean refusal at the border.
What is a Tajikistan single entry visa versus multiple entry?
Single entry allows one entry during the 90-day validity. Tajik missions publish that consular fee as USD 30. Multiple entry allows more than one entry during the same validity window, and the published consular fee is USD 50. Each stay is still not more than 60 days.
Do I need a GBAO permit with my Tajikistan visa?
Yes, if the trip enters the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, also called the Pamirs. The GBAO permit is single entry, it is separate from the e-Visa, and you enter that region on the date shown on the permit. Tajik missions publish the permit fee as USD 20.
Which Tajikistan visa do I need?
